Brazilian Tapir Gallery

A birding trip to the Pantanal almost certainly involves many hours in a boat searching for waders and gallery forest species, especially the elusive Agami Heron.  During the dry season, there's a good chance you'll also encounter a large mammal, such as a Jaguar or Brazilian Tapir.  Near the end of our final boat excursion during a recent stay at Southwild Pantanal, I spotted this massive tapir standing motionless in the hyacinth.  As we were coming from downwind, it allowed us to approach in the boat silently to within ten meters while it calmly drank its fill and then strode off into the forest.
