Brassy-Breasted Tanager Gallery

Endemic to montane Atlantic Forest, the Brassy-Breasted Tanager, or Tangara desmaresti, is a fine representative of what might be the most glorious genus of birds in the neotropics, including Flame-Faced, Paradise, and Seven-Colored Tanagers. Brassy-Breasted Tanagers are not uncommon in the appropriate habitat, and I came across a huge flock of them at Serra dos Orgãos a few weeks ago, foraging in fruiting trees along the roadside. Along with Red-Necked and Gilt-Edged Tanagers, they can really brighten up a mixed flock of foliage-gleaners and flycatchers.
