Black-Masked Finch Gallery

It took me months of birding in the Cerrado to finally track down the Black-Masked Finch, or Coryphaspiza melanotis, whose status is plummeting drastically due to habitat loss. Now classified as vulnerable, the finch occurs only very locally in undisturbed grasslands, or campo limpo. Thanks to a tip from Rafael Teixeira, I located this male and female pair near the Morro da Baleia in the Chapada dos Veadeiros.
